Oliver Knight & Hugo Jones are a U.K born, Mallorca based DJ, production duo, with a never ending passion for electronic music. The similarities in both of their musical tastes and backgrounds has seen them forge a very exciting partnership. They began producing at the end of 2011 and this has brought success with numerous tracks being released on some of the industry’s leading labels, including: Stereo Productions, Great Stuff Recordings, Global Underground, Strictly Rhythm, Ole and Cubizm.
Since their first release at the back end of 2011 they have collaborated with: Matthew Codek, Diavlo and Inaki Santos, in addition to that, Kaiserdisco gave their Global Underground release a great remix. More recently the boys have become in demand remixers in their own right, for the likes of: DJ Chus, Abel Ramos, David Penn and David Herrero.
After DJ’ing in his hometown of Bournemouth for 2 years Oliver decided it was time to try his hand at DJ’ing abroad, not long after this decision he found himself in Mallorca. This move proved to be a positive one when he was offered a trial set at the world renowned club BCM Planet Dance. This trial set quickly turned into a weekly residency, eventually turning into becoming the full time resident DJ the following year. The opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest DJ’s in the world at such a young age was in his own words “a dream come true” and Oliver continued this residency until 2010 when the production partnership with Hugo started to take shape.
Hugo’s love for music has been evident since his childhood growing up just outside london. Listening to a wide range of musical genres has given him a great knowledge and passion to make music that he loves. He first travelled to Mallorca in the summer of 2002 and since then, his reputation within Mallorca has increased season by season. Over the past decade Hugo has played at some of the resorts most established events, numerous high profile residencies and performed at some of the resorts biggest parties. Not to mention winning the resorts Best DJ award in 2006.
The pair first met in the summer of 2007 but due to heavy work schedules they never really had time for anything other than their own DJ gigs. It was early 2009 when they became neighbours that they began creating a DJ partnership that could be heard in Magaluf and in London when they returned home. Oliver had moved to London in the winter of 2009 and gained residencies for the pair and they also started a weekly radio show on one the city’s leading house music stations. Things were really starting to take shape at this point for the pair after getting huge plaudits for their energetic and enthusiastic DJ sets and at first what seemed like rough ideas were now starting to take shape for what would be their first production. As Hugo says “we just want to make music people can relate to” and this is what happened. 2011 was a great year for them when they sent a demo of their track ‘Navaja’ to the legendary record label Global Underground (a personal favourite of them both) Little did they know but at the time they were doing a search for new talent scheme and sure enough, the track was signed. Considering this was their first track to get signed and for it to be on one of their most loved labels you could say they were extremely happy! This release also came with a remix from one of the biggest names in the tech house scene, Kaiserdisco. Things were now really moving and 2011 saw them sign to more labels and be remixed by some of the industry’s front runners. Following on from this 2012 started like a steam train with releases on Stereo Productions and their own 3 track EP on Great Stuff Recordings. Shortly after the lads have gone on to remix Iberican house legends DJ Chus, Abel Ramos and David Penn, had a follow up releases on both Stereo Productions and Great Stuff and these tracks also featured on some of House music’s most respected compilation albums. The second half of 2012 will see collaborations with artists from the UK, Europe and the USA which the pair are extremely excited about, plus a whole host of original material set for release in the upcoming months.
